About this test

6 min to complete
Available in EN, ES, RU

The Indiana written knowledge test for a license or a permit is divided into two sections, the first devoted to road rules, and the second focuses on road signs. You must pass both parts of the test simultaneously pass the entire exam and get your learner’s permit. This BMV practice test centers on fines and limits, which will be featured in the road rules portion of the test. This part of the exam will have 34 multiple-choice questions of which you cannot miss more than six to achieve a passing score. Fines and limits information is covered in chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the 2024 Indiana Driver’s Manual and will cover questions regarding limits to permits and licenses, the license point system, insurance requirements, and more. These are some of the most difficult test questions, since they require memorizing exact figures. Once you’re ready for your written exam, you should bring proof of your identification, state residency, and social security number, as well as the $9 permit fee to your local BMV. You’ll need to take a vision test in addition to your knowledge exam, and if you’re a minor, you’ll need to provide a signed financial responsibility agreement form from a parent or guardian.
